Here is a great book written by an Israeli lawyer who was more lucky than Demjanjuk’s first lawyer (he managed to scuff the tops of his shoes on a window sill when he “committed suicide”). This lawyer only had acid thrown in his eyes … for the crime of successfully defending Demjanjuk.
How does Yoram Sheftel sum up this travesty of justice?
Yes, you see, the book was portrayed by the major mainstream publishers as politically incorrect. Why politically incorrect? Because this is a book which is, first and foremost, an exposé of a shocking and unprecedented cover-up and conspiracy by the Justice Department, which in the context of all these events is on the left of the political spectrum. Now, the victim of this conspiracy is a man who is considered as being a part of the chauvinistic ethnic right-wing minority.
And if such a person is a victim of such a cover-up, then the so-called mainstream media, mainstream publishers want to silence the truth. I mean if Demjanjuk would have been a black man, for instance, and if he was a victim of this cover-up because of being active in black politics, then there would have been an outcry throughout the media in the United States.
And such is the fate of an American/Ukrainian, anticommunist, gun carrying man since this combination is prima facie proof for the Left to convict.
UPDATE: Demjanjuk must appeal again as he was denied by the Immigration Board – on Good Friday, no less!
I question why this man, at his age, is being subjected to this? I am a black man. And, for the life of me I just don’t understand why events of the holocaust are still so important. African Americans experienced similar cruel and inhumane treatment by the dominant culture of America since the beginnings of American society. But the hangings, mass murders and subjection to the worst living conditions of any group of Americans have been dismissed. Why are the Jews so insistant on bringing every person who they think had something to do with the holocaust to justice? Where is the justice for slavery and all the elements of hate crimes African Americans endured over a period of 400 years?
And, no! If Demjanjuk had been a black man, as you suggest, there wouldn’t have been an outcry. Martin Luther King was assassinated. Malcolm X was assassinated. Thousands of African Americans have been tormented and imprisoned for being active in black politics. Black organizations have been dismantled for being active in black politics. If Demjanjuk had been a black man, he would have been persecuted and murdered a long time ago.
