“Strange and Pathetic” per noted NeoExCon

November 30th, 2005 by Blackminorca

Is this the best the Liberal Party in Canada could find to ramrod thru the election? And a former liberal sellout neocon to boot! Does that make him a Neo ExCon?

This is the smear applied by Mr Ignatieff to Ukrainian protestors who had the temerity to bespoil his entrance to the Bolshoi Ballet – (who was that Dr Zivago creep played by Rod Steiger that hamhanded Juli Christie? – he too changed his colors – tho somewhat slower than Ignatieff).

“You need to break Beluga eggs to make Caviar”?

Well it seems that Mr Ignatieff needs to go back to “Burning Bridges 101″ course and learn a bit about building constituencies as these “strange and pathetic” people are very active in BC, Alberta, Sask., and Manitoba politics.

And is it any wonder that Mr Ignatieff works for the NYTimes? You might want to email with your thoughts.

UPDATE : SimonPole advises that an emergency email by the campaign manager accuses Ukes of taking “Strange and Pathetic” out of context. What part of strange and pathetic do we misunderstand?

Oh Orange Canada!

November 30th, 2005 by Scythian Princess

Canada needs an Orange Revolution

Well, a federal election is underway up here in Canada. Could Ukraine please send some election observers?

The very day the minority Librano, er, Liberal government was defeated in a vote of non-confidence, news stories had already broken here and here about some electoral machinations that would have made Yanukhovych proud.

It seems the Party ran roughshod over its own riding association executive in the Ontario riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore and, breaking its own rules and breaching democratic due process, parachuted in their own fair haired boy .

Sound familiar to Orange Revolutionaries?

The story has been followed in the blogosphere, including here , here , and here .

The whole bizarre situation is all the more ironic given that apparently members of the riding association executive and both shut-out nominees were election observers to Ukraine last year. If they’re watching the Canadian elections, Kuchma, Putin and Yanukhovych et al must be laughing their heads off.

Advice to Conservative leader Stephen Harper : Don’t eat with Liberals, and if you start gaining in the polls make sure to hire a food taster.

Russia’s Folly

November 27th, 2005 by Blackminorca

Another great observation by Stuttaford on NRO showing Russia’s continued inability to move forward:
……………………………………
A GENOCIDE REMEMBERED [Andrew Stuttaford]

The Ukraine is marking the anniversary of the Stalin-era terror-famine this weekend, and, the BBC notes, President Yushchenko is calling for that famine to be recognized for what it was, an act of genocide. Russia, unsurprisingly, objects. The BBC also reports this:

“In 2003 Russia’s ambassador to Ukraine, Viktor Chernomyrdin, was quoted by Interfax news agency dismissing talk of an apology or compensation, saying: “We’re not going to apologise… there is nobody to apologise to.”

A somewhat unfortunate choice of words.

Tesla Who?

November 26th, 2005 by Blackminorca

Civilization as we know it would not exist if not for Tesla who invented AC electric as well as the basis for wireless communication. AC electric is to Edison as Calculus is to arithmetic.

MoverMike advises that Tesla is now the basis for a new movie -and about time. Hopefully, it will successfully portray the Durantyesque airbrushing from history this great inventor received

Since popular protests toppled the authoritarian government of Georgia in 2003, Chinese leaders and government academics have watched with increasing concern the copycat collapse of similar regimes in Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan.

Someone should tell the Chinese government about the New York Times and its record of excellent propaganda on behalf of authoritarian regimes.

Leave it the Taxachusetts

Massachusetts was the only state to vote for McGovern (and against Reagan) and it is not surprising that a coalition has been formed there to stop Armenian Holocaust education. (“Graphic Warning” applies).

Well, they certainly do have the consent of Hitler who beseeched the following on the eve of his invasion of Poland:

“I have placed my death-head formations in readiness – for the present only in the East – with orders to
them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion , men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

What’s that they say about those that refuse to learn the lessons of history?

UPDATE – They are Stealing Christmas in Beantown, too

It is a Good Time to be Alive! The leftist obfuscation of 70 years is coming to an end and these days have been a celebration of same. They came to celebrate the conservative press. They came to celebrate the disrobing of the emperors of the NY Times.

And They Came to Saint Patrick Cathedral for the annual Memorial to the Holdomor.

2000AD vs 2000BC

November 23rd, 2005 by Blackminorca

Great article by Mr Derbyshire ( the nephew of the AntiDuranty advises it is pronounced “Dahhhbesha”) .

It brings to mind a comment once made that the 2000 years BC are roughly exemplified by the progress of small piles of rocks into large ones.

But the 2000 years AD is exemplified by humanity progressing from large piles of rocks to outer space and cyberspace. (OK – there were some 5th columnists in Greece and Egypt). What caused the quantumn change in human evolution?

The obvious independent variable is the difference in “corporate culture”.

Its sad to say that many have lost sight of the import of western civilization.

Holiday Recipe

November 23rd, 2005 by Blackminorca

This annual and universal dessi-cration of turkey carcasses falls under the “IIIIR” Law.

Turkey is really a delightfull meat but why does EVERYONE cook it BREAST SIDE UP. This causes the driest part to become dessicated after any fluid follows the law of gravity and migrates to the backbone and away from where it is needed.

This year, try cooking the turkey breast DOWN – and let it lay in the pool of fluid in the bottom of the pan – cook to “beef medium” on the meat thermometer and you will have the best turkey ever.

And as with any poultry, be sure to rub and soak in salt – per directions on any container of kosher salt. This really brings out the flavor and does not make the meat salty.

WFB 80th Birthday Bash

November 21st, 2005 by Blackminorca

The global decline in reason and discourse was beaten back for several hours last Thursday when so many came to honor William F. Buckley on his 80th. At the risk of ommitting some, we happily note that Mr John O’Sullivan (at the podium) and many of the NR regulars (in breakout sessions) were stellar in speech and thought.

And as related, many think of these occasions as a sad passing of things – but then someone suggested that those at the Pearly Gates are not happily anticipating having their Latin skills tested when WFB arrives for his new beginning.

And for the rest of us who might resent being left behind – not to worry – they made more! Yes, just as Tony Curtis threw Yul Brynner into the well in “Taras Bulba”, Christoper Buckley the son deftly demonstrated his ability to carry on the family tradition. Read more of this remarkable family (and then some) here.
